A thermal health summit brings together international experts in Ourense Delegations from China, the United States and Kazakhstan will address the challenges of balneotherapy in Ourense
The most representative association of SPAs and health organizations in the world, Femtec (World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy) - endorsed by the World Health Organization - chooses Ourense as the epicenter of an international congress on the balneotherapy of the future. About thirty experts from various countries will speak on sustainability strategies and new visions of health and well-being.
Marita G. Souto (in the image) from Ourense, one of the great experts in thermalism, is the Galician delegate of Femtec and is in charge of organizing the event, which will be held from October 26 to 30 at the Afundación headquarters. The Inorde, the Provincial Council of Ourense and Caldaria sponsor the congress.
Different countries The congress participants who will arrive in Ourense next week come from countries such as Spain, the United States, Italy, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, San Marino, Romania, Cuba, Russia and China. “Given the importance of the topics discussed, the choice of the congress headquarters in Ourense plays an important role. Thermal towns of great prestige and tradition constitute an international health cluster model, in which the quality of the waters, the facilities and the historical and cultural heritage of Galicia are valued,” says Marita G. Souto.
The congress is thus focused as a “health cluster” that will address the future of thermal medicine. “In the not too distant future, patients will have to deal more and more with non-communicable diseases,” explains the researcher who, given this panorama, wonders what actions to foresee for thermal medicine and what future awaits the thermal baths and the medical spas. “The challenge will be to reconcile the new global socioeconomic and environmental conditions with the unique specificities of the thermal tradition, defined by therapy and the environment,” defends Marita G. Souto, who highlights the “potentialities” of balneotherapy in Ourense.
Themes of the congress Among the main issues that international experts will address are the organization of national and international thermal systems; balneology; economic and social policies for thermal medicine; environment, climate and sustainability in thermal clusters; developments in medical research and technology; impact of artificial intelligence and resources for inclusive development of health and wellness tourism.

The then president of the Provincial Council, Manuel Baltar, participated in the conference.
Now, the provincial government is a sponsor of this world congress and, in addition, Ourense will be the epicenter of the Femtec national assembly.
