 A new partnership between FEMTEC and the WHO
The World Health Organization confirms accreditation of and joint activities with the World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy for the 2015-2018 period.

The decision was notified to professor Umberto Solimene, President of FEMTEC, based on the Executive Board resolution, that followed a positive evaluation of the actions implemented within the framework of the WHO strategies.
This reaccreditation round saw the application of even stricter criteria, which resulted into the exclusion of more than one third of operating non-governmental associations.

The general management of the World Health Organization (WHO) confirms the accreditation of the World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy (FEMTEC) for the 2015-2018 period. The first accreditation was granted more than 25 years ago.
The decision was notified to professor Umberto Solimene, President of the Federation, based on the Executive Board’s resolution that followed a positive evaluation of the actions implemented within the framework of the WHO strategies. This reaccreditation “round” saw the application of even stricter criteria, which resulted into the exclusion of more than one third of operating non-governmental associations.
There was high appreciation for the Hydroglobe survey, which also enjoyed the support of the Italian Federation for research in the thermal sector (FoRST) and helped provide an organic overview of the use of hydrotherapy around the world, as well as of its scientific foundations. The project will be followed by Hydroglobe2, part of the HEALTH 2020 programme, intended to provide an observational evaluation of the impact of hydrotherapy on people’s wellbeing in Europe.
“Such an outstanding and significant acknowledgement bears evidence of the ever-growing interest of the WHO in thermal medicine as a traditional, complementary, and integrated approach to health care and maintenance,” says president Solimene. “For FEMTEC, for hydrotherapy in the world and, particularly, in Italy, this confirmation is an additional acknowledgement of the approach of the President and of the international Managing Board, aimed at the use of thermal water for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation purposes. Research, training, and clinical practice are the main features for appropriate and responsible diffusion of hydrotherapy.”
Founded in 1937, FEMTEC (www.femteconline.org) gathers the national institutions in the hydrotherapy sector in over 25 Countries, with permanent offices in several regions, including Italy, Tunisia, Russia, China, and the US.
